White supremacist with bayonet and machete arrested outdoors DNC

Capitol Police arrested an obvious white supremacist in possession of a bayonet and a machete outdoors the Democratic Nationwide Committee headquarters Monday morning.

Donald Craighead, a 44-year-old from Oceanside, California, was arrested on fees of possessing the prohibited weapons along with “a number of knives.”

Craighead’s Dodge Dakota pickup truck was noticed by a Capitol Police officer on patrol at about midnight and was pulled over within the 500 North Capitol St. block.

The truck had an image of an American flag rather than a license plate and had a swastika and different “white supremacist symbols” painted on it, in line with Capitol Police.

Craighead advised the officer he was “on patrol” after which began speaking about white supremacist ideology.

“That is good police work plain and easy,” mentioned Chief Tom Manger. “We applaud the officers’ eager statement and the teamwork that resulted on this arrest.”

The arrest comes days earlier than a deliberate rally on Saturday in protest of the remedy of these arrested on fees of rioting on the Capitol on Jan. 6. The Sept. 18 rally has congressional leaders and safety officers on excessive alert and will immediate the return of safety fencing across the Capitol.

It isn’t instantly clear if Craighead was planning to attend the Saturday rally or has any connection to Jan. 6 or different circumstances within the Capitol space.

“This is a wonderful instance of the work our officers do on daily basis,” mentioned Operational Providers Bureau Deputy Chief Jason Bell. “We’re so happy with these officers for his or her vigilance.”
