Alan Kalter, David Letterman’s announcer on the Late Present, died Monday on the age of 78.

Kalter’s spouse Peggy confirmed he died at Stamford Hospital in Connecticut to the Hollywood Reporter Monday night.

Kalter started his time as a Late Present announcer in 1995, taking on for the retired Invoice Wendell. His first day on the job, Letterman threw him right into a pool, based on the Hollywood Reporter.
